Leading Innovation: A Leap of Faith

Suppose your organization had the ability to create, develop and implement an idea that would be beneficial to the people you serve in 100 days?  How might such ability change the dynamics of your organization, as well as the energy and creative culture of your staff?  Read about the possibilities of “Making Change Happen, On a Deadline” in this article by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Tina Rosenberg, in the New York Times. Here, the story is about making 100 day progress in HIV testing and community health, but we’re inspired by their Rapid Results methods. Then take that leap of faith…innovate!

Curious how you might innovate on a 100 day deadline?  Green groups can take a page from our colleagues in the health field, who have saved thousands of lives and curbed big problems in short order using methods know as “Rapid Cycle Improvement.” The idea is to pilot something new on a small scale and test rapidly whether it’s getting results (think “this week” vs. year end).  Teams funnel what they learn into another test cycle, and repeat with urgency until they see big results.
