Strengthening Ohio Leaders and Organizations (SOLO)
A two-year initiative funded by the George Gund Foundation, to build strong leaders, organizations, and coalitions among Ohio environmental, environmental justice, and conservation organizations. The initiative aims to serve especially those organizations that don’t receive services from existing programs for watershed organizations and land trusts, including groups working on:
- Policy advocacy;
- Sustainable agriculture;
- Toxics and pollution in urban neighborhoods;
- Climate change;
- Sprawl.
ICL will also provide some support for watershed organizations and land trusts. In delivering this programming we are coordinating with the Land Trust Alliance, River Network, and the Ohio Environmental Council through their existing capacity-building programs.
Services Offered
SOLO will provide Ohio leaders and organizations with:
- Reduced tuition for a limited number of eligible organizations in ICL’s signature intensive programs, including:
- Subsidized custom consulting and program facilitation for eligible organizations. These services could include consulting for strategic planning or help with a staff transition. We’re particularly interested in facilitating meetings that help to build bridges between traditional environmental and conservation organizations and non-traditional allies from other constituencies.
- Workshops on relevant topics of interest, either within existing gatherings or as stand-alone ICL events. We will choose topics in consultation with Ohio leaders; some of those suggested include:
- Raising money from individuals;
- Working well in coalitions and networks;
- Developing board leadership; and
- Planning and executing campaigns that win victories and make your organization stronger
If you are an Ohio leader and have a suggestion or request for a workshop or custom services, please contact us.
